The difficulty in learning LaTeX does not lie in the concepts, as much as in finding the right tools.Īt its heart, though, LaTeX is actually simple. Adding to the difficulty is the number of editors designed for it, including extensions for both Vim and Emacs, as well as LyX, a graphical interface. Instead, the difficulty lies in the size of the project. LaTeX has a reputation for being difficult, but not because of its complexity. Users speak of compiling their first lengthy document in LaTeX in the same way others talk of compiling their first Linux kernel, and several professors tell me that students regularly have to be prevented from obsessing over LaTeX at the expense of their research. Even today, it is widely used in the academic sciences and in some publishing houses. Before LibreOffice or AbiWord, it was the most advanced tool on Linux for formatting text. ![]() The comic frisson between Frost (a pompous dandy to whom Jackman gives the right amount of outlaw charm) and Susan (an extremely avuncular Galifianakis) is just about enough to power the film for its 95-minute running time. Together, they journey to Asia to find a hidden kingdom that the yeti says is populated by more of his kind. Link, though the creature (Zach Galifianakis) prefers the name Susan. ![]() Frost quickly identifies him as a “missing link” of sorts between modern Homo sapiens and our primate ancestors and dubs him Mr. As it turns out, that yeti is not only real but also capable of speaking perfect English. His idols, the stuffy members of an adventurers’ guild who deride him from within their mahogany-bound chambers, challenge him to bring back real proof from his next fantastic mission, so Frost packs his bags for the Pacific Northwest in search of a yeti who has been spotted. But while the film (directed by Chris Butler, whose last feature was the excellent Laika project ParaNorman) conjures several gorgeous landscapes, Missing Link also stands out as a lovely fable about the limits of Frost’s assiduousness, and the complications caused by his sense of superiority.Īfter his attempt to get solid photos of the Loch Ness monster goes awry, Frost returns to London at the risk of being branded a fraud. It’s filled with colorful characters, innovative creature design, and some of the most spectacular sets in Laika’s history. His attention to detail makes him an ideal fit for a form that brings wiry puppets to life through meticulous craft and technology-in which every turn of a character’s head or tap of his foot takes hours, or even days, to arrange.Ĭonsidering the effort that has to go into every shot, Missing Link-the latest feature from the bespoke animation powerhouse Laika (the studio behind hits such as The Boxtrolls and Kubo and the Two Strings)-is impressive to the point of feeling daunting. The opening scene of the film sees Frost (voiced by Hugh Jackman) battle the Loch Ness monster with hilarious precision, tackling the gargantuan beast with just a walking stick and a notepad. He’s an explorer who travels to eye-popping locations around the world, makes a habit of finding the strangest-looking creatures possible, and does it all with a clipped sort of fastidiousness straight out of his Victorian era. Sir Lionel Frost, the ostensible hero of Missing Link, is a perfect match for the medium of stop-motion filmmaking. ![]() ![]() System Requirements for PDFpen Pro 13 for Macĭownload PDFpen Pro 13.1 for Mac free latest full version offline direct download link full offline setup by clicking the below button. The choice to mark Kid A and Amnesiac in this way also makes sense from a purely personal point of view. However, Kid A and Amnesiac pushed that trajectory much further, incorporating influences from ambient, electronic, jazz, and post-rock and often eschewing guitars or traditional rock ’n’ roll structures altogether. Looking back, Kid A and Amnesiac are sometimes overlooked in the shadow of OK Computer - arguably the band’s most widely known effort, as well as the one that’s frequently credited for revolutionizing their sound and putting them on a firmly experimental trajectory. It is fitting, too, that Kid A Mnesia: Exhibition commemorates 20-something years since the band’s fourth and fifth studio albums, recorded at the same time but released in 20 respectively. I could accept an Automator rule that watches a folder (Downloads), and renames all PDFs with a prepended PDF Creation Date. So this preliminary download - file naming correction would be very helpful in keeping my files chronologically correct. My paperless Hazel workflow rules already change the file creation date to the date prepended in the file name, using a shell script. I want to set Hazel to monitor my Downloads folder and automatically rename every PDF with a prepended Creation Date, extracted from the pdf metadata. Especially as more and more banks and online agencies move towards downloaded documentation. I suspect this renaming capability based on PDF metadata is a feature that many would want. But I was unable to create an Automator action that would rename my file because I'm unfamiliar with Automator and thus inadequate to that task. Then I found that Apple's Automator has a promissing PDF Action called "Get PDF Metadata". Here's an example: Code: Select all set theFiles to choose file with multiple selections allowed repeat with theFile in theFiles set filePath to quoted form of POSIX path of theFile set theName to do shell script "mdls -name kMDItemFSCreationDate " & filePath & " -raw" set theName to theName & ".pdf" if theName is not "(null)" then try tell application "System Events" to set name of theFile to theName end try end repeat But this code, as I say, does not equal the date in the PDF meta data. Instead, the Spotlight creation date seems to equal the download date. But the data do NOT reflect the date in the PDF file metadata. TASK: I want to read the creation date from within the PDF file, and rename the file in a format like: -Filename.pdf I discovered some nifty Applescripts and shell scripts that will rename a file based on Spotlight searched data. There it displays a metadata "Creation Date", that is the date when my bank issued the statement, not the date I downloaded the file. But my testing shows that the Spotlight Creation Date is NOT the same as the date inside the PDF file that shows when you show the Preview file inspector. ![]() Hazel seems unable to read PDF meta data, correct me if I'm wrong. What if I could simply download my statements, have them renamed based on the PDF metadata "Creation Date", and import them into EagleFiler? That would be cool and save paper too. My bank now offers a pretty cool download feature for all my documents. But now I want to cut out the US Mail and scanning with ScanSnap, and OCR and all that. ![]() In my current paperless workflow, I manually prepend the statement date in front of the file name and let Hazel change the file creation date using a shell script, to the date in the file name, -filename.pdf. PROBLEM: I want to download my bank statements instead of waiting for the USPS delivery and then laboring though the process of scanning them and OCR'ing. Any ideas how to get that? This is an old thread but I'm resurrecting it because I've been all over the interwebs and can't find a workable solution to this problem. I already tried that but it also returns the wrong date: kMDItemContentCreationDate = 2017-01- 06 08:09:09 +0000 Creation date in PDF metadata seems to be a totally different thing. If you do "Get Info" in Finder, it should show almost all the info available. Mr_Noodle wrote:You can check the content creation date. |
